POE Witch Guide - How to Build a Necromancer

Posted By Tom Riva     Jun 23

Body

In Path of Exile, witches are the best choice for beginners. The mage can deal a lot of damage in range, keeping you out of the line of fire and punishing from a distance. The Necromancer route allows you to let minions handle most of your damage.

Necromancer witch build

Witches have high damage potential and develop minions to work for you. With abilities like resurrecting zombies and summoning skeletons, Necromancy is very useful for beginner players. To build the Necromancer, you'll need to rely heavily on the Raise Zombie gem, which revives corpses to fight for you.

Remember, you must have corpses available nearby to use it, otherwise, the spell won't work. Construction is never easy, you will need to use a lot of POE Currency, please keep accumulating it.

Necromancer passive skill

At the very beginning of the tree, choose "Energy Shield and Mana Regeneration", which will both protect you and give you more mana to summon minions that die on you. From there, go up and right to upgrade your minion's health and damage. For starters, the huge skill tree can seem overwhelming.

Click the "Search here" bar at the top of the screen and type "minion" to highlight the area of the skill tree you want to target, if you're not going to use minion buffs, try not to waste your skills. To start unlocking the left Skills, unlock the skill tree most efficiently:

Redemption - increases damage and minion movement speed, attack speed, cast speed, and accuracy
Gravepact - increases minion damage, attack speed, and accuracy, and gives minions a 5% double damage chance
Righteous Army - increases minion maximum life, life regen, minion damage, and minion life regen

When you finally complete the maze, make sure you select the Necromancer Ascension skill tree and seek to gain the following skills:

Unnatural Strength - +2 to all minion skill gems' level
Plaguebringer - consuming corpses increase you and your minions' area-of-effect damage, and with corpses nearby your damage given is raised while damage taken is decreased
Bone Barrier - offers physical damage reduction per minion, the increased recovery rate of life and energy shield per minion, and minion max life

Boost Zombie Support Gems

To use and upgrade gems throughout the build process, it's best to use 6-link equipment to put 6 gems and work together. If you don't have enough gem slots, make sure you stay at the top of this list:

Raise Zombie - raises a zombie from a nearby corpse. Needs corpses to function
Deathmark Support - allows your minions to target specific enemies and deal extra damage to the marked target
Feeding Frenzy Support - makes minions more aggressive, also giving chance to get damage and speed buffs on hit
Minion Damage Support - increases damage dealt by minions, obviously
Melee Physical Damage Support - increases physical damage from attacks made by the supported melee skill
Added Fire Damage Support - adds extra fire damage to supported skills (zombie attacks)

Although the witch class is usually seen as a tank. But a passive skill that converts energy shields into mana through power batteries may bring more surprises. Using this style of build correctly will make it possible to get a full set of damage gear.
